About Home-stays

Homestays are run by Ethnic minorities who choose to welcome travellers and have prepared their houses to accommodate guests. These are traditional houses where the family stays in separate rooms with guests, although you will often eat dinner together with the family. There are hot showers, towels, western-style toilets with paper, electricity, mosquito nets and tasty local traditional food. The homestays are clean and safe and here you will experience local ethnic culture.

Local Activities: A Taste of Tradition

On the first day of your trek, instead of dining in a local restaurant, we’ll take you to enjoy lunch in a local house, where you’ll savor traditional dishes prepared by the Hmong ethnic minority. In these villages, purchasing beer or commercial wine is uncommon, so the locals either craft their own rice wine or buy it from a local store that specializes in this traditional beverage. This rice wine, similar to sake, packs a punch with an alcohol content of around 35%.

After your meal, we’ll introduce you to a unique local game that involves drinking rice wine using a chicken beak. To ensure a pleasant experience, we limit the amount of rice wine to 1-2 small glasses per person. If you prefer not to drink, that’s perfectly fine—participation is entirely optional.

Following the game, we’ll continue our trek to your homestay, where you can unwind and enjoy the rest of your day. On your final day, you’ll have lunch in a local restaurant to round off your journey.

Local Special Herb Plant

During our treks, our local guide will help you identify special herb plants that are traditionally used in local villages for medicinal purposes. These herbs are known for their ability to heal itchy feet and eliminate bacteria. Once you reach a local house, the guide will demonstrate how to boil these herbs in a pot. After boiling, you’ll have the opportunity to mix the herbs with salt and enjoy a relaxing foot bath.
